Updated regulations

Amendments to the degree and assessment regulations are highlighted in the key changes documents below.

Taught assessment

Amendments to the regulations focus on clarifying expectations around issues such as: assessment deadlines in vacation and revision periods; resit entitlement; postgraduate progression. The number of permitted submission opportunities for postgraduate taught dissertations has been limited to three (one initial submission and two resubmissions), even when students have exceptional circumstances. The Key Changes document below provides a full list of the amendments.

The regulations will be published on 15 September.

 

Postgraduate research assessment

Minor amendments to regulations around College Postgraduate Committees, clarifying the process by which the Committee reviews decisions, and changes to examiner recommendations. The Key Changes document below provides a full list of the amendments.

The regulations will be published on 1 August.

 

Degree regulations

The Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree Regulations are published on the Degree Regulations and Programmes of Study (DRPS) website.

DRPS 2025/26

Undergraduate

The regulations have been amended to state that students cannot resume study on a taught course following an interruption of study more than two weeks after the beginning of a semester. Regulation 26 has been amended to clarify that Leave of Absence is not appropriate for long-term study at a distance. Regulation 33 has been amended to include the fact that a former student who has withdrawn from study may apply for readmission. The full list of Key Changes is available below.

 

 

Postgraduate

Late admission and Leave of Absence regulations have been updated in line with the changes to the Undergraduate Degree Regulations. Other amendments include the following:

  • In-person attendance may not be required for resubmission of dissertations.
  • Clarification that on doctoral programmes, the total permitted period of interruption is 36 months, with the exception of PhD with Integrated Study programmes.
  • Regulation 45 Request for Reinstatement has been revised with reference to the revised Withdrawal and Exclusion from Studies procedure.

Academic Appeal Regulations

Minor amendments have been made to these regulations in response to other policy changes and experience of individual student appeal cases. The late appeal final timescale has changed from two years to one year, with a grace period in place for six months from August 2025 to February 2026.
